Freedom
@ 20/06/05 - 02:45:40From a previously virgin blogger.
Freedom is a fetish for myself, it is in my awareness daily, and I totally identify with other citizens of the world who do not experience Freedom, and who probably do not know what Freedom is.
For myself Freedom is, free from persecution, indochrination of any kind, including family oriented, business oriented, religion oriented or politically oriented, and also school oriented. Free from cruelty and torture, poverty, hunger and starvation.
Freedom in my opinion, is also having respect for the rights of citizens, to have a roof over one's head, clean water, good health and the opportunity for a good education.
Freedom of thought and speech without any fear.
I live in Australia, and I am not proud, under the current regime, I do not have any respect for the person, who was elected for the position of Prime Minister in 1996.
He has ignored the wishes of the Australian people, except for his rich mates, in breaking International laws on "war", and agreed conventions on the Rights for Children. He has kept people, including children in his detention centres for years without regard for the psychological damage done to these suffering people. What for you may ask?, the answer, because he won an election, on his policy of getting tough on asylum seekers and using them as a warning for other human beings, not to attempt to gain asylum in "his Australia". His detention centres are surrounded by razor wire and are run for profit by an American business.
Since this Prime Minister has been in power, he has gradually degraded the health and education systems to save money for his other pursuits, such as funding an illegal "war" and purchasing expensive second hand tanks and second hand helicopters from America.
He funded "off shore" detention centres, such as Nehru and built a large detention centre named Baxter.
The Prime Minister has slashed funding to the so called independent National Broadcaster, he now uses it as his own propaganda machine, as staff members are forbidden to voice personel opinions. Freedom of speech has been removed due to the edict "Balance" to be used in all comments.
For ten years of my chilhood, I was subjected to no freedom of thought, nor generally any freedom, due to being in an instituition and receiving intense catholic endochrination.
I had no personel effects and received all forms of abuse.
To this present day, I am still coming to terms about the concept of Freedom and attempting to understand it for myself. I feel that it is a very neglected area.
I think that Freedom is alive for me today, because of the gap between when I was a child and the reality of the present inhumane and punishing regime, not experienced by myself in my "adult" life. I identify with all those that suffer. I am 66 years.

Hi Sarah
The asylum seekers locked up for years in prisons / detention centres in Australia are a cause for real concern. Your prime minister John Howard is no better than George Bush and Tony Blair!
How sad to hear about your abusive upbringing in a Catholic institution, similar to what has occurred in the recent past in the New Zealand Presbyterian Church.
Regards
Dawn

Dear Dawn,
This is a very late reply indeed, i have not been active here for a very long time.
Thank you for your encouraging response to my blog Freedom.
John Howard is the worst PM we have ever had in Australia.
I have invited you as a friend.
I have been to New Zealand, it is a very beautiful country and the people are so nice and friendly.
Hugs Jaye
